إشتهى الإبن الأصغر فى أن يكون حراً بعيداً عن أبيه الصالح.  فسأل أبيه الحى عن نصيبه من الميراث لأنه اعتبره ميتاً.  لقد كان طلب الإبن الأصغر لنصيبه عاراً لدى هذا الأب الصالح، لأن بطلبه هذا وضع بالتأكيد مستقبل أبيه فى شىء من المخاطرة.  و لم يفكر الإبن الأصغر لحظة واحدة فى عواقب هذا القرار الذى إتخذه.  فعندما ترك الإبن الأصغر أسرته، وضع أبيه فى وضع غير مرغوب و غير مستقر.  كانت بداية الإبن الأصغر فى الرجوع حينما جلس مع نفسه.  و الظروف الصعبة التى أحاطت به كانت خطوة أساسية فى أن يرى فى أبيه الصالح نوراً جديداً يعيد إليه الأمل فى الرجوع إليه… ”إِذِ الْجَمِيعُ أَخْطَأُوا وَأَعْوَزَهُمْ مَجْدُ اللهِ.“ (رومية 23:3).

 So he got up and went to his father

The younger son desired to be free from his good father.  He asked his good father for his inheritance, he considered him as already being dead.  The younger son’s request for his portion of the inheritance was an incredible disgrace to his good father.  His request put his good father’s future also at danger.  The younger son unfortunately did not think of the consequences of his actions.  When he deserted his family he left his good father in an undesirable precarious position.  The beginning of the younger son’s return was truly a self-knowledge.  Yet the painful circumstances indeed helped the younger son to see his good father in a new light and brought him hope… “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).
